Phumzile hails from Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. He recently joined the critically acclaimed Three Mo’ Tenors and has been a part of their international tour since 2006.
Phumzile debuted the role of Arthur in Nathan Davis’Jazz Opera, Just Above My Head with the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh. Other roles performed are Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with the Lexington Opera Society, Remendado in Carmen, Monostatos in Die Zauberflote and The Messenger in Aida, all with Dayton Opera. Phumzile has also performed Giuseppe in Traviata and The Prince of Persia in Turandot with Cincinnati Opera. Other roles include Giles Cory in the Crucible and Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte. He appeared as Robbins and Crabman in Porgy and Bess with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and a concert of arias with Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra.
Phumzile has been a Young Artist with Glimmerglass Opera, Cincinnati Opera,Kentucky Opera and Dayton Opera. He studied at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and The University of Kentucky. He is a recipient of the Orpheus National Vocal Competition and a finalist of the 2005 MacAllister Awards.
Phumzile performed in the Broadway revival of Porgy and Bess and can currently be seen in Broadway’s Cinderella.
